In some areas accommodations are few and far between in several areas and some of them are also quite basic. We have chosen the best there is in each area, but in some areas you have to take what is there and that is part of the adventure! The same will be true of places to eat.

Day 1 - September 9th - We will meet at our Bergen Accommodation and spend the day in Bergen starting with a Guided Walking Tour. Bjørgvin, meaning `Meadow between the Mountains` was the original name of the city when it was founded in the 11th century. Now known as Bergen, the city has developed over the centuries from a meadow into a cosmopolitan city. For many visitors, Bergen is the most beautiful city in Norway. On our tour you will be enchanted by the Maritime Charm of the Harbour Bay, Vågen, and the cities Narrow Wooden Lanes. On the tour you will get to know the most important sights of Bergen: the Fortress Bergenhus, the Hanseatic Quarter of Bryggen and St.Mary´s Church to name just a few. Our guide will not only bring us close to the historical nature of the city, but also to its inhabitants, the `Bergenser` and their lives in the here and now. After our tour,we will stop for a delightful Afternoon Tea in the city and then you will have some free time to enjoy more of the delights of Bergen before we meet up for dinner. We highly recommend taking the funicular Fløibanen to Mount Fløyen. At Mount Fløyen you will find beautiful views of Bergen, the nearby islands, fjords and mountains surrounding Bergen. It takes just six minutes to get to the top and I especially enjoy the walk back down, but you can take the funicular down as well. Welcoming Dinner and Overnight Bergen. (B,L,D)

Day 2 - September 10th - This morning we make our way to one of our most favourite places in Norway, Flåm, for a three night stay. On our way we sill stop at Havrå, a farm on the south side of the island Osterøy outside Bergen, and one of the best preserved and most distinctive Norwegian cluster farms. These traditional farm settlements were common in western Norway, where multiple individual farms and their houses were built close together. People have lived and farmed here since the older Bronze Age. The farm was protected by The Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage in 1998, and is a unique reminder of the farming practices, building traditions and hard work on the many western Norwegian farms. We will have a tour of the farm before making our way to Tvindefossen Waterfall near Voss, but not before picking up things for a picnic lunch at the waterfall. The waterfall has a drop of 360 feet and is a very popular attraction as myths say that it is a fountain of youth! Many visitors describe feeling refreshed and energized after experiencing the waterfall's misty embrace.The falls can be reached by walking along a pleasant walking trail that leads to stunning vantage points near the base of the falls. At this time of year the falls are spectacular with the beautiful fall foliage complements the falls. Then we make our way to Flåm to get checked into our accommodation before we gather for dinner. Day 3 - September 11th - Flåm sits in an area well known for its fjords and sits at the end of Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the vast Sognefjord. We will start our day with the Flåm Railway which has been described as one of the most Beautiful Train Journeys in the World and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal Station. The journey features the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway. The Roundtrip Journey is truly magical taking us through the valley of Flåmsdalen and connects the mainline with Sognefjord. The line's elevation difference is 2,841 feet, has ten stations, twenty tunnels, a horseshoe curve, one bridge and has a maximum gradient of 5.5 percent. It also stops at Kjosfossen Waterfall. Once back in Flåm we will have lunch and then visit the Stegastein Viewpoint on a guided bus tour. This scenic overlook, which extends 100 feet from the mountainside, rises 2,132 feet above the fjord offering a picturesque view of the surrounding landscape. From here, you can see Aurlandsvangen from a bird’s perspective, the impressive mountain range across the Aurlandsfjord, and the landscape stretching toward Flåm. You can see Aurland village, the village’s church and school, and the most unparallel view you can get of any fjord in Norway. It’s one of the most photographed sights in the region. Overnight Flåm. Day 4 - September 12th - This morning we start our day with a Fjord Cruise as there is no better place to take a fjord cruise! The vessel will begin its journey sailing through the idyllic Aurlandsfjord, which is also inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It ends at the Mountain Beitelen, which separates the Aurlandsfjord from the Nærøyfjord and is considered to be one of the most picturesque fjords in the world! The boat then continues through the narrow Nærøyfjord, the narrowest and best known of the many arms of the Sognefjord. With its Steep Mountainsides, Hanging Valleys, Towering Peaks, Snowfields, Waterfalls and Small Hamlets, this fjord is perhaps the most outstanding natural attraction in Norway. Once back in town you will be able to find some lunch and do some shopping before we make our way to Gudvagen where you can find some lunch before we experience the Viking Town of Njardarheimr. The gates are open to anyone interested in experiencing and learning about the Vikings and how they lived, worked and influenced the world around them. Here you can move between the houses and become part of a living city - an international community of Viking enthusiasts. Dinner and Overnight Flåm. (B,D)

 

Day 5 -   September 13th - Then we continue further north to our accommodation situated in Fjærland, on an upper branch of Western Norways' spectacular Sognefjord. On the way we will stop at the Heiburg Outdoor Museum where you we find around 28 acres of land, containing between 30 and 40 different houses that have been relocated from various Sogn villages. Many of them have been arranged as homesteads. You will find examples of most historically common Sogn village buildings. The oldest are from the 1500s, ranging from a Middle Age log house to an old vicarage building and a 1980s prefabricated house. There are arches, lofts, barns and other farm buildings, mills and boathouses, smithies, dryhouses, wood storage and outhouses – as well as a remarkable beacon house. We will stop in Sogndalsfjøra for you to find some lunch and a bit of exploration. Sogndalsfjøra, often called Sogndal, is a lively fjord village in Vestland county, Norway. Set where the Sogndalselvi river meets the Sogndalsfjorden, it acts as a regional hub for the Sognefjord area, offering a blend of dramatic mountain views, local cafes, and outdoor adventures. We will get settled into tour accommodation and then you will have some time to explore before we gather for dinner. While exploring you will find stunning views across the fjord and the surrounding mountains including the glacier. Dinner and Overnight Fjærland. (B,D)

Day 6 - September 14th - This morning we make our way further north to Geirangerfjord. We will have an early start and make our to Sande with a comfort stop and some amazing scenery along the way. Once we reach Sande we will board the MS Kjenndal II which will take us on a trip from Sande at the lower end of the Loen Lake to Kjenndalsanden. We will stop have lunch at Kjenndalstova before the boat returns us to Sande. The complete trip takes around 4 hours. The boat trip is a spectacular experience for seeing both the valley and the surrounding nature. The trip passes the famous Ramnefjell and Utigardsfossen which are ranked 11 in the list of the ”Worlds most Famous Waterfalls”. The waterfall is especially spectacular when the water levels in the lake are high. We then continue to Geiranger with a couple of scenic stops along the way including Tvindefossen Waterfall near Voss, one of the most iconic riverside attractions in Norway. Plunging 360 feet down a steep cliffside, the water splits into silvery streams that fan out over ancient bedrock, forming a mesmerizing display of cascading tiers. We will also stop at Geiranger Skywalk on Dalsnibba Mountain. Here at 4,900 feet above sea level there is a massive panoramic view of the snow capped mountains, Blåbreen Glacier, Geiranger and the fjord. Then we continue to get checked into our accommodation before dinner. Dinner and Overnight Geiranger. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - September 15th - Geiranger is a tiny village nestled at the head of the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord in western Norway. Surrounded by towering cliffs and deep blue water, it is celebrated for dramatic waterfalls like the Seven Sisters and breathtaking high-altitude viewpoints. The best way to explore Geirangerfjord is by boat so we will have a unique perspective on a Silent Fjord Cruise aboard a hybrid-electric catamaran. We will glide effortlessly across the water as we take in iconic waterfalls like The Seven Sisters Waterfall, The Bridal Veil Waterfall, and The Suitor Waterfall. With no engine noise to disturb the moment, this peaceful journey brings us closer to the raw beauty and serenity of one of Norway’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. The boat has an inside area with panorama windows and outside panorama deck. Once back in Geiranger we will stop for lunch before taking an excursion to Flydalsjuvet which has been the subject of many photos of Norway and you will probably recognize it. The viewpoint is divided into two areas, one upper and one lower plateau and a gangway runs between the to plateaus where you will get amazing photos from these spectacular viewpoints that offers impressive views of Geiranger and Geirangerfjorden. Back in Geiranger you will have the evening free to explore and find some dinner on your own, Overnight Geiranger. (B,L)

Day 8 - September 16th - This morning on our way to Sandane we stop at the Jostedalsbreen National Park where the Jostedalsbreen glacier is the largest ice cap in mainland Europe and the largest white area you will find in Norway! Glaciers make up nearly half of the national park's area, which is otherwise characterised by lush, narrow valleys and cascading waterfalls and rivers. While here we will visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum & Ulltveit-Moe Climate Centre, an interactive museum for the whole family that gives you knowledge of the glaciers and climate in new and innovative ways. The exhibition covers topics within natural sciences and cultural history. Next we stop alongside Nordfjord at Visnes where the autumn colors are among the most beautiful things you can experience in Norway. The birch forest glows yellow and red, the lakes mirror the mountains, and the trails are quiet. You can find some lunch here before we visit the Visnes Mining Museum. The Statue of Liberty is made of copper from Visnes and Visnes was the first to introduce the telephone in Norway? After thoroughly exploring Visnes we continue on to Sandane to get checked into our accommodation before dinner. Dinner Overnight Sandane. (B,D)

​Day 9 - September 17th - More spectacular scenery today as we make our way further north to Ålesund. Just north of Sandane there is a short ferry crossing of the great Nordfjord to Nordfjordeid. At Nordfjordeid we will visit the Sagastad Museum to see the Myklebust Ship, the largest Viking Ship that has ever been found traces of in Norway! The museum provides a fascinating insight into the way of life and the worldview of Norse society living in Nordfjordeid over a thousand years ago! Leaving Nordfjordeid behind, we drive east along the shores of Lake Hornindalsvatn, the deepest lake in Europe and one of the deepest in the world! Most of the lake's volume is under sea level and on average water takes more than 15 years to pass through the lake. At Hornindal (Grodås Village) we will stop for lunch before continuing west towards the alpine landscape of Volda and Ørsta Villages traveling alongside Geirangerfjord, one of the jewels of the Norwegian Fjords. With its Characteristic S Shape, High Waterfalls and Abandoned Mountain Farms, the fjord landscape is included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Then onto the Festøya to Solevågen Ferry for a short crossing to Ålesund. Ålesund and suburbs sits on an archipelago connected to the mainland by short bridges. We then get checked into our accommodation before dinner. Dinner and Overnight Ålesund. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - September 18th - As we are half way through the tour you will have the full day in Ålesund, where Mountains and Fjords Meet the Ocean! The town of Ålesund has a beautiful setting across several islands stretching out into the Atlantic Ocean, and is known for its architecture in Art Nouveau Style, as it was rebuilt in 1904 after a devastating fire. Things you may want to explore are the Art Nouveau Town Center, the Hellebroa Bridge, and the Scenic Town Park. A strollthrough the streets will give an intimate insight into the town’s ancient past and modern culture. After lunch you find some lunch you will want to make an excursion to the Town Mountain of Aksla and the Fjellstua Viewpoint. From the viewpoint there is a Panoramic View of the Archipelago, the Beautiful Town Centre, and the amazing Sunnmøre Alps. You can either walk the 418 steps up from the Town Park or take the City Train up to Fjellstua. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for more exploration and to find some dinner on your own. Overnight Ålesund. (B)

Day 11 - September 19th - Today we discover the majestic Sunnmøre Alps from the magnificent, 35 kilometre long Hjørundfjord in Møre and Romsdal between Ålesund and Øye. You will travel through unspoilt nature in a dramatic, rugged, varied and historically rich fjord landscape. The Hjørundfjord is surrounded by steep mountains that rise up vertically from the fjord with peaks stretching 1,700 metres above sea level. The fjord splits the Sunnmøre Alps in two with small villages along both sides of the fjord, some without any road connection. Some of these villages remain unspoilt and have kept their authenticity, as the boat has been the only form of transport for centuries for the people who live here. After our roundtrip journey we return to Ålesund where you can find some lunch before we drive a short way to the Alnes Lighthouse which lies in the fishing community of Alnes on the Island of Godøy. The lighthouse dates from 1876 and is a relic of Norwegian Coastal Culture. The lighthouse is home to Historical Exhibitions, Local Souvenirs and Handcrafts. You can climb the steep steps up to the top of the lighthouse, and be dazzled by the striking view of the ocean and coastline. End your stay with a visit in the original main building, where you can savour one of the Famous Traditional Cakes the lighthouses own housemother makes! Dinner and Overnight Ålesund. (B,D)

Day 12 - September 20th - Leaving Alesund behind we travel eastward along the coast to Åndalsnes, nestled between fjords and mountains, the mountaineering capital of Åndalsnes is one of the highlights of the area! The Magnificent Valley and Wild Mountains on the way to Åndalsnes is well worth this short detour we will take through the Romsdalen Valley. The valley is well known for the live performance of the Emerald Green River Rauma, Lush Waterfalls, Steep Mountains and Magnificent Bridges. We will stop for lunch and then take a fantastic ride on the wonderful Rauma Line, an Experience-Packed Train Ride through the Romsdalen Valley, with the most Spectacular Mountain Formations in Norway!  The Rauma Railway offers regular train departures between Åndalsnes and Dombås passing well-known attractions such as Kylling Bridge and the Trollveggen Wall, and through the remote wilderness area of Reinheimen National Park. We then make our way to our accommodation to get checked in before dinner. Dombås is one of the major intersections of Norway where road, rail and rivers meet as well as being home to several national parks. Dinner and Overnight near Dombås. (B,D)

Day 13 - September 21st - On tour way to  today we stop at the Viewpoint Snøhetta (also known in Norwegian as Tverrfjellhytta) located on the outskirts of the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, overlooking the mountain Snøhetta. The building serves as both an observation pavilion for the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Foundation and as a hub for the foundation's educational programs. The Dovrefjell mountains hold a unique place in Norwegian history through a wide range of tales and myths connected to the mountains. It is also home to Europe's last wild reindeer herds and the natural habitat for many rare plants and animals, including the muskox. We will find a location within the park to have our picnic lunch before visiting Aukrust House in Alvdal, a unique place that plays a very special part in the cultural heritage it conveys! Multi-artist Kjell Aukrust has delighted the entire population of Norway with his stories and art for decades. Here you can delve deep into Kjell's humor and madness, drawings, paintings and fantastic texts. Then on to Røros to get checked into our accommodation before heading out to dinner. Day 14 - September 22nd - Today will be spent in Røros, a Traditional Mountain Village in Trøndelag, one of the oldest towns of wooden buildings in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known for being a living museum that whispers centuries of history, all the way from the charming streets and down to the old copper mines. Røros street pattern was laid out in 1600, but really came into existence in 1644, after the First Copper Discovery in the area. We will have a Guided Tour where we hear about the history behind this charming wooden town, the people who lived here and how the city has evolved through preservation and modernization! After our tour you will have time to explore this delightful town before we meet up for lunch. After lunch we visit Røros Museum Olav's Mine. Our tour will be an hour’s walk through 300 Years of Mining History taking us through the Nyberget Mine dating from the 17th Century and the Olav’s Mine from the 20th century. We will descend 50 metres below ground and 500 metres into the mountain before reaching the massive Miner’s Hall with sound effects and lighting that will add to the authentic feel. After our tour we will explore The Museum which houses exhibitions about the mining community and the geology of the region. Then the evening is on your own to find dinner and to explore this delightful mining town. Overnight Røros. (B,L)

Day 15 - September 23rd - This morning we take the Røros Line Railway from Røros to Hamar. From your seat you will be able to spot architectures jewels, such as old train stations, amidst the dense forrests. The tracks on the Røros railway will take us along the river Glomma, Norway’s longest and most voluminous river, as well as near the wilderness in the Femundsmarka National Park. This is one of Norway’s most untouched nature, where endangered species have survived for generations. Hamar is located on the shores of Lake Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake. Its history stretches back to medieval times, when Hamar Cathedral, built in the 12th century, stood at the centre of a thriving community. With cafés and restaurants nearby,  we will take a moment to pause and enjoy the views before strolling along the lakeside promenade where you can find some lunch, After our lunch break we will visit the Hedmark Museum, where Iron Age relics and medieval buildings are carefully preserved. The cathedral ruins are housed in an enormous steel and glass shelter nicknamed the “Glass Cathedral”. Then we make just a short way further on to Oslo to get checked into our accommodation before dinner. Dinner and Overnight Oslo. (B,D)

 

Day 16 - September 24th - We will start our morning with a Guided Walking Tour of Oslo. Our experience begins in central Oslo, where we will meet our local guide and receive an introduction to the city and the planned route. We will then stroll through the city center, discovering important squares, elegant streets, and waterfront areas while learning about Oslo’s Viking heritage, modern culture, and daily life. Along the way, our guide will introduce you to the exterior of famous landmarks, royal sites, and monuments while sharing stories about Norwegian history and architecture. We will walk past some of Oslo’s well-known museums and cultural institutions, where oour guide will provide historical context and local recommendations. As the experience continues, ywe will uncover hidden streets, scenic viewpoints, and lesser-known corners of the city that many visitors miss. We will then take Afternoon Tea together before you have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to roam the city and find some dinner on your own. Overnight Oslo. (B,L)

Day 17 - September 25th - Today we make our way even further south to the very southernmost point of Norway at Kristiansand. Along the way we will stop at Tønsberg which is Norway's Oldest Town. From the Vikings of old times to the tourists of today, people have always flocked to Tønsberg. After some time to wander around and do some shopping we will meet up for lunch. After lunch we will visit Verdens Ende “The World’s End” which is located outside Tønsberg in Færder National Park. Here you get majestic views to the horizon. Verdens Ende is probably best known for Vippefyret, a small stone house built from pebbles from Tjøme's Beach in 1932. We then continue our journey through the geographical region of Sørlandet whose coastal areas is known for Skerries, Saltwater and Idyllic Small Towns and Villages. We finally arrive into Kristiansand, the largest city in Southern Norway and also the Capitol of Southern Norway. Its old town, Posebyen, has Northern Europe's biggest collections of charming, old, white wooden houses. Dinner and Overnight Kristiansand. (B,L,D)

Day 18 - September 26th - This morning we make our way along the southern coast of Norway and up to Stavanger for a two night stay. It will be another long journey, but sprinkled with spectacular scenery. We will make our way to Lingdal and then to Farsund and then to Borhaug at the westernmost point of the Lista Peninsula. Here we find the Lista Lighthouse within an Oasis of Green and Blue between High Sky and Wide Horizon. During the autumn of 1781 a total of eight ships  were stranded here, so in 1836, this coastal stretch was improved by means of a 34 metre high lighthouse, cut in granite. By 1853, Lista Lighthouse Station was the largest in the world! There is now a collection of contemporary art by both Norwegian and International Artists in the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage. We will continue to Flekkefjord for a Stop for Lunch in the Dutch Quarter. The Dutch Quarter is a small area of the town that had a strong relationship with the Netherlands in the 1500 and 1600's. The old town is called "Hollenderbyen", which means the Holland town and is made up of old white wooden houses in small lane ways around the city. After some time to explore, we continue to Stavanger where we find our accommodation and dinner waiting. Dinner and Overnight Stavanger. (B,L,D)

Day 19 - September 27th - This morning we take a Lunch Cruise to Lysefjord. When the sun gets into the fjord, you will see why its called Lysefjord or Fjord of the Lights! Our captain will take us as close as he can to the vertical mountain drops to feel, smell and taste the pure water freshness of the Hengjane Waterfall, known in Norwegian Mythology as the 'Water of Wisdom'. First we visit the Vagabonds Cave, a narrow outcrop in the side of the fjord and we discover its secrets. Afterwards, we continue to Preikestolen. Translated “preachers pulpit”, Preikestolen is a sight unrivalled in Norway. The rock formation towering over 600 meters above you seems to defy all laws of nature and it’s a stunning sight to see. Lastly we visit the 75 meter tall “whiskey” waterfall and you will learn from our guides why it has received this name. The ship features a fully stocked bar and cafe and is designed with guests comfort in mind and during the cruise you can enjoy the scenery from inside one of our saloons which feature floor-to-ceiling windows, giving you a front-row-experience from wherever you are. Then the rest of the afternoon and evening are free for you to explore and then find some dinner on your own. Day 20 - September 28th - This morning we take the very early ferry crossing from Stavanger up to Bergen. The crossing takes five and a half hours, but cruises through some of Western Norway's most spectacular scenery where the distance between the open sea to islets, archipelagos and deep fjords is minimal. As it is an early ferry, we will let you find some breakfast after we get onboard. The ship Sails in Inshore Waters for the entire voyage, so you’re never far from natural landscapes or landmarks. Be prepared for Karmsund Bridge which connects Karmøy and Haugesund and illustrates what is so wonderful and unique about voyages in Western Norway. It’s not possible to get a closer mix of nature and man-made structure as you will see at Karmsund Bridge. Its characteristic arch makes it popular with photographers, so have your camera ready! You will be able to find some lunch onboard at the either the Commander Buffet, Grieg Brasserie or Oasis Garden Café. Once we are in Bergen we will get checked into out accommodation and then you will have some time to take in more of the sights before we meet up for dinner. Dinner and Overnight Bergen. (B,D)

Day 21 - September 29th - This morning we return you to Bergen International Airport for your journey home.
