Our first week will be spent on a Barge Cooking and Wine Cruise on the Rhone River discovering wine, food and history. We will have our own private 9 cabin barge and our crew of 5 will help us truly discover France, its culture and its people as they are all of French nationality operating with a concept developed by owners family, and run by their fixed team, who speak many languages, but will know how to communicate their passion for the region. The chef was trained in Paris and in some of the region's starred restaurants, so they offer a gourmet and inventive cuisine that never repeat itself. They will even invite you to cook if you wish so, and will share with you their knowledge and give you some advice and some of the 'secrets de chef'. Both lunch and dinner will be paired with local wines. The lounge has wide panoramic windows, a bar where champagne and cocktails will be served to you, the restaurant with its professional cuisine, and a sun deck where you can rest, contemplate the landscapes, and observe river life during navigation. We are awaiting our day by day itinerary from the Captain of the barge which he will provide in December.

Our second week will be a land tour where entirely take over a 14th century Fairytale Style Burgundy Château that is often referred to as ‘Sleeping Beauty’s Castle’. It is set within 30 spectacular acres of mostly forested parkland reating many wonderful opportunities for walking and exploring. There is also a fantastic Voie Verte(traffic free path) connecting various southern Burgundy towns close by. You will also want to use the heated pool. We will have our meals catered and with lunch and dinner paired with local wines.

This location is perfect for  taking in the many delights of the Burgundy Region starting in Dijon, the capital of the great region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in the eastern central part of France and an ultimate cultural destination. As an officially recognised "City of Art and History”, it  boasts a vast protected area covering 97 hectares. That area is now on the UNESCO World Heritage list with the Climates of Burgundy’s vineyard. There is no motorized traffic in Dijon and the half-timbered houses, Romanesque and Gothic churches and the 17th- and 18th-century private mansions majestically highlight the Medieval streets of the former capital of the Dukes of Burgundy. While here we will have a Discovery of Dijon Tour. As a food and wine capital, Dijon is famous for its culinary specialities which include mustard, snails, crème de cassis, chocolate, and gingerbread. While here we will have a mustard tasting tour.

Highlights of the Burgundy area will be:

Côte de Nuits Wine Route des Grands Crus south through iconic vineyard villages like Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romané.

Beaune, the Wine Capitol of Burgundy. A Tour of the medieval ramparts of the 15th-century Hospices de Beaune with its iconic multicolored glazed-tile roof. Visit the local wine museum, Musée du Vin de Bourgogne and browse specialty food shops for local cheeses like Époisses. Cote de Beaune with a journey into the golden Chardonnay heartland of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Enjoy a relaxed vineyard lunch and an afternoon cellar tasting. A day trip west of Beaune to Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, a dramatic cliffside medieval castle town, followed by the picturesque walled town of Semur-en-Auxois. Visit the UNESCO-listed hilltop Basilica of St. Mary Magdalene in Vézelay or the serene Romanesque Fontenay Abbey. 2 Cooking classes: one lunch and one dinner.

The price reflects booking a luxury barge for 1 week with wine at lunch and dinner and an open bar before and after dinner, and also booking a luxury Château for 1 week with wine pairings for dinner with both the barge and the Château available only to our tour group. We would love to do the tour for less, but this what the price is for this caliber of tour. Full daily itinerary coming in January.
